Raewyn Harris Art lesson

Green Hat Thinking Day was filled with imagination and creativity!  We enjoyed creating our masterpieces so much that we stuck with it all day until they were complete.

Mrs Harris came to teach us how to create artwork based on koru designs, using oil pastels and permanent markers.  She showed us one of her own paintings. WOW!!! We loved it.

Firstly, how to draw a koru shape.  This is the trickiest part!  But what used to look just "like a beanstalk"  now looks like a real koru.  What an achievement.  You need to draw a spiral to start with, "over the hill" then trace over it back towards the start until you reach the end and take your line out to create the stalk.

Practice the shape using your hand.  Everything is curvy.

Time to practice.  Draw your design in pencil.

Choose your favourite one and transfer it to your good paper.  Make it larger.

Now trace over with vivd (permanent marker) and fill in the spaces that aren't koru.

Next step is to choose 3 colours from the colour wheel that compliment each other.  Colour in the ribbons and koru.

Here is our finished work.  We are so proud!!!

Some of this work is on Raewyn Harris's facebook page (Raewyn Harris Artist)....go have a look at her work!
